Mindfulness exercises are so important for training the body to shift from a stressed state to a calm state. Yet it's difficult to find guided exercises that hit the spot (I've trawled through many!). These are some of the best mindfulness exercises on YouTube without any "new age" jargon.
30 Minute Body Scan (30:05) This is one of the best videos, guiding the listener through various parts of the body. An important part of mindfulness is learning to be conscious of various areas where stress may be stored, The sheer act of being attentive to the body, releases pent-up energy and fosters a sense of calm. No new age jargon or background music.
9 Minute Body Scan: Anxiety Skills (9:12) Like the previous video, it is good when mindfulness exercises foster awareness of various areas of the body. This person speaks a little too fast for my liking, but still delivers a solid exercise.
Mindful Body Scan (Short) (4:25) A 4min version of the previous video.
Deep Relaxation of Sleep (49:00) A valuable feature of this video is its focus on the breath. As we bring awareness to our breathing, it naturally slows down, helping to calm the body. This focus on the breath also serves as a way to centre the mind and block out external distractions. The speaker's British accent is gently soothing.
Sleep in Peace - Guided Christian Meditation (57:20) The first 16min of this video is excellent in terms of mindfulness, guiding you to tense and then relax various muscle groups. The rest of the video goes through Bible verses and praises to God.
Being Still in the Presence of God (20min) This is a very soothing, relaxation meditation exercise that directs you to the presence of God. It doesn't go through areas of the body but is good for focusing the mind. The background music is hypnotic (in a good way!).
9-Minute Body Scan: Anxiety Skills | This is a short 4min body scan exercise. Like the previous video, it is good when mindfulness exercises foster awareness of various areas of the body. This person speaks a little too fast for my liking, but still delivers a solid exercise. |
